A Cold Wave Passes
February 7th, 2001 |Been moving. Been mumbling. Been to the South Beach and back. Saw the Bowl. Saw the rebirth. Felt the heat of Florida winter. Heard the Florida folk complain. Four states of ice there, three states back, and only now thawed enough to tell. Wore a black hat for years and will for years more.
Fifteen long trips around the sun and finally warmth has returned to the universe I know. Time in decline, time in suspension, finally the awakening came and nothing could stop it. The Sooners are national champions again.
Sick days
The elation remains but the cost of cramped travelling environs with a coughing person was a week of coughing. Tag on eye burnout from playing the second Baldur’s Gate game, and two and half weeks recovering due to stupidity and obstinance and January was shot for any creative purposes. The game is still leeching that time a bit. If a bit is equal to any free time I have near my PC.
Plans
What exactly is the plan? I’m glad you asked that. Since raveller.com and monkeyproject.com were founded we have continued our focus on what really matters which, to me, is other matters. Sure it means that they fail as “continually updated web sites”, but this gives me time to do things like make every OU home game but one, see OU smash Texas, see OU win the Orange Bowl, go out drinking with friends, go to Austin to see Jay Farrar play solo, and take a few pictures along the way. The plan is always to distill these experiences into wisdom and humor and art and photos and pass that on to you. For free.
Recommendations
Like I said, I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn a whole lot. It is a giant game and very addictive. For PC RPG gamers it is a must. Be prepared to spend two months on it though.
Farscape on the SCIFI channel finished its second season and will start again on March 16. This show is undeniably the best acted, best scripted, best directed, best effected television space opera ever. EVER.
On the Music side of things, if you have never listened to Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, the Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, or Built to Spill, then you should. Because I said so. Instead of offering specific links, I suggest you search Google or just go buy everything they’ve done at
